Chris Albrecht - Owner / Drupal Developer
Building websites and the internet in general has always been a passion of mine. For most of my life, it was more of a hobby than a job. At the age of 14 I was exploring the source code behind the member web pages that came with AOL 2.0. Through college I began to realize that pursuing a degree in education was not the right path for me, so I shifted my focus back to my hobby. I enjoyed all aspects of web development and design. I became proficient with Photoshop and Flash as well as various scripting and coding languages. I came away with degrees in business and web technology and haven't looked back.
I continued learning about different technologies and web applications and eventually worked my way into a position as the web administrator for a nationwide company. As the company grew so did the need for a more robust website. When I was introduced to Drupal in 2007 I saw all the work I had done in my freetime manifested one hundred fold. I quickly realized the potential that came with such a robust and maintained system.
With a few referrals from friends and family, I found that there were a lot of small businesses that were very unhappy with their internet presence, be it an ugly website, costly maintenance or not knowing how to get started. In 2008 I formed 162 Unlimited to fill this need. I wanted to give to business owners the ability to manage the content of their website without having to call a development firm for every little detail.
Since its inception I have designed and built various sites for local artisans, complete with shopping cart and checkout. I have worked with companies to redesign their websites and better organize their content and I have been a part of some teams working with larger companies to maintain their sites and develop new features.
My specialty is data management and interface design, but I am not content in a corner. I still work in PhotoShop and I’m always excited to learn about the newest web technologies and trends.
What does 162 Unlimited mean?
The 162 part of the name comes from the number 1.62. It is a rounded form of Phi, or what is more commonly know as the Golden Ratio. The ratio is roughly 1:1.6180339887. For centuries it has been pondered by mathematicians, physicists, historians, biologists and just about every other discipline you can think of because of it's frequent appearances in geometry, patterns in nature, ancient architecture, human anatomy etc. What caught my attention was the precise measurements with which certain Greek edifices were constructed. Temples such as the Acropolis and the Parthenon were constructed precisely to this proportion. The Greeks realized that this ratio gave structural stability and was also aesthetically pleasing. It is that natural balance of structure and elegance that drove me to incorporate it into my business.
The Unlimited part of the name is much simpler to explain. I don't like limits. I am never content at a place that has nowhere left to go. I am always striving to learn more and to do more. I believe to be successful, you need to push the boundaries.
